Web Developer Role Brief: WordPress Website Maintenance and Updates
Role Overview:
We are seeking a skilled Web Developer with WordPress expertise to manage the ongoing maintenance, updates, and optimization of our company website on a remote, part-time basis. This role will ensure the website remains functional, secure, user-friendly, and aligned with our brand and business objectives. The Web Developer will collaborate with internal teams to implement new features, troubleshoot issues, and enhance the user experience, focusing exclusively on WordPress support.
Key Responsibilities:
Perform regular WordPress maintenance, including core, theme, and plugin updates, bug fixes, and security patches.
Update website content, visuals, and functionality using WordPress to support business needs and marketing campaigns.
Ensure cross-browser compatibility, mobile responsiveness, and adherence to web accessibility standards (e.g., WCAG).
Monitor website performance using tools like Google Analytics and resolve issues such as slow load times or broken links.
Implement new WordPress features, plugins, or integrations as required (e.g., custom post types, APIs).
Maintain version control and documentation for all website changes within the WordPress environment.
Collaborate with designers, content creators, and marketing teams to ensure a cohesive online presence.
Stay updated on WordPress trends and recommend improvements to enhance user experience and SEO.
Preferred Skills and Qualifications:
Technical Skills:
Expert proficiency in WordPress, including theme and plugin development, customization, and troubleshooting.
Strong knowledge of HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and PHP as they relate to WordPress development.
Familiarity with WordPress-specific tools (e.g., Gutenberg, Elementor, or ACF) and hosting environments (e.g., WP Engine, SiteGround).
Knowledge of version control systems (e.g., Git).
Understanding of SEO best practices and web performance optimization techniques for WordPress sites.
Experience with web hosting, domain management, and server-side configurations (e.g., AWS, Azure, or cPanel).
Soft Skills:
Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks with deadlines in a remote, part-time role.
Effective communication to collaborate with non-technical stakeholders.
Optional but Desirable:
